David Lee starting strong

David Lee continues to play like an all-star for NY in the preseason. His all-around skills are on full display in coach Dantoni's system, as he racked up 7 assists and 7 rebounds to go with his 17 points (on 11 shots) tonight against the 76ers, in his team-high 34 minutes.

A key stat is the 7 trips he took to the free throw line (hitting all seven), leading his team by far, demonstrating his skill and aggression around the hoop. In order to be taken seriously as a star power forward, David needs to up his average from the past two years of only 3 FTs per game. Everyone knows he is a rebounding machine, but he will also need to up his average 7 shot attempts per game to become a true star and reach his potential.

In the Knicks last game, also against Philly, David pumped in a team-leading 19 points, on only 10 shots, to compliment his 15 rebounds.

Clearly, David is enjoying the new environment under his new coach. In the three preseason games so far, he is averaging over 19 points on 11 shots and 5 FT attempts, almost doubling his average from the past two years of 10.8 points.
